We learned about mixing colours to make several shades, and put our skills to the test with this rainbow mural! Artist Trading Cards Tons and tons of paper, prints, stamps, scissors, and notions. So many possibilities! Over the week, the kids made tons of cards! David is looking through the Fisher Price microscope. The beach looks very different from that close up! A rockin' rainbow! Emma began with one square as her canvas... Pretty soon the driveway looked like a patchwork! With this project we called Flower Hill, Josh had everybody in stitches with his creative flowers. He had a light saber flower, a cello flower, a baby flower... Here are all the Flower Hills.... Josh and David getting their turn on the light bright. This thing is cool! We each had a colour of the rainbow, and were challenged to make 10 different shades of that colour. Arjun is learning about all the ways to make purple! Here are some of the colour mixing pictures hung on the wal for the art show. Neveah made a lovely little stage for her finger puppets! It's hard to take photos of mobiles when they are hanging in the middle of a busy studio! The girls doing their needle felting... Hand sewing little bunny ears... body parts scattered around... Here are the monsters! Emma blends in with her pink house! Wouldn't you want to live here? And a blue room for a blue monster.. this guy is livin the life! Piggy banks: designed, painted and decorated by the kids! These kids better start saving! A bright sunny day for the final day of art, and all set up for the art show! These girls have style! Collage of fabric and textures on the very cool patchy balloons! The girls each needle felted a little creature to fly in their Pathcy Balloon baskets. A bunch of kids around a table making art = endless bubble chatter and laughter. Inspired by Spring! Splatter trees! Look at these beautiful cherry blossoms .... flying all over the place! A collection of lovely art, so fun to make. Painting tiny canvases, for tiny triptics... Ideas come in threes... Workin' on the rainbow! Our finished mural hanging under the bright skylight. A look into the studio at the art, all set up for the parents to come see.

The first holiday camp here at the studio was a roaring success! I’m not sure who had the most fun, me or the kids.
I felt like I was living the dream. The mornings were very causal with three lovely and hilarious 9 year old girls. I had planned and prepped for a few different ideas but ended up following the interests of the girls, who lead us through a few amazing self-directed projects. The girls made trading cards, tried needle-felting, collage, sewing, painting, and made the coolest little bachelor pads for the little monster stuffies they sewed.  In the afternoon, more kids joined us, and we got messy! We painted, took trips to the beach to see what we could find, made piggy banks, finger puppets and little stages for them, mobiles, splatter trees, and lots of trading cards! The kids didn't want to leave! And I didn't want them to either!
